Le Tour de Fractions
As part of our Europe unit, the students did a special math project inspired by the Tour de France. We dubbed it "Le Tour de Fractions." During the project, the students read background information about the Tour and analyzed data from the official Tour de France Race Data Website.
They then used and manipulated this data draw logical conclusions, compare and contrast, and stretch their ability to think mathematically. The following document guided their thinking and problem-solving: Le Tour de Fractions Student Think Sheet.
The students also displayed their data in the hallway for their parents to see on Winter Open House Night!
Le Tour De S.H.E.
The students also designed their own Tour de S.H.E (Sam Houston Elementary) course! They began my exploring and documenting the terrain here on our campus.
They then blueprinted their own courses, built a model of the course, and analyzed their own course using fractions as well using this reflection sheet: Tour de SHE Reflection Sheet.
Such fun with France and fractions!
